What is the Wizard?

The PHP Wizard is at your service, helping you to make a Web page without the hassles of learning HTML. By providing a variety of thematic templates and graphics, the Wizard allows beginners to build a home on the Web. As soon as you've finished designing your page in the Wizard, just click "Save" and it will be viewable by anybody on the Web.

What is a template?
When you make a page in the Wizard, you start with a template--a collection of graphics related to a certain theme. If you change your template, all of the text you entered will stay. However, the graphics and layout will change. Templates are stored in categories. When you choose a template, you first choose a general category, then a template from within the category.
How do I create a page using the Wizard?
To create a page using the Wizard, first log in to the PHP system (see "How do I log in?" in the Introduction). Once you have logged in, click the Wizard icon at the top of the PHP home page. If you have never used the Wizard before, you will be asked to choose a category and a template.

Once you are in the Wizard, use the controls on the left to modify your page and click save to save your page to the PHP server. For more detailed help, click the word "Help" at the top of the Wizard screen.

What happens if I click the "Back" button while in the Wizard?
Unless you immediately click the "Forward" button to return to the Wizard, you will lose any unsaved changes you made. If possible, do not use the "Back" button while you are in the Wizard.
How do I see what my page will look like at full size?
To see a full-sized preview of your page, click the "Preview" button at the bottom of the Wizard screen. The preview will appear in a new browser window, which may obscure the Wizard screen. If you have a large monitor, you can work in the Wizard and watch the changes happen in the large preview window. If you have a smaller monitor, you may need to close the preview window in order to use the Wizard.
How can I customize my page even more?
The Wizard lets you do a lot to your page without knowing any HTML. If you've got the bug and want to learn how to do HTML, you can use your Wizard page as a start. If you enter the File Manager, your page will be listed as index.html. You can edit it in the File Manager or download it via FTP to your local hard drive to edit using another tool. However you do it, you will be making changes that the Wizard will not understand. If you try to edit the page again in the Wizard after you have modified it, your page will return to the way it was last time you edited it in the Wizard.

Can I modify my Wizard page in the File Manager?
Yes. However, if you try to open your page again using the Wizard, the changes will not appear. The Wizard keeps track of changes you make to your page, but only when they are made in the Wizard. If you make changes to your page outside of the Wizard, they will not be recognized if you reopen it in the Wizard.
Why did my browser software report an error?
Because the Wizard relies on some advanced Web technology to allow you to edit a page right on the Web without knowing HTML, it may sometimes conflict with your browser. For best results, please use the most current version of your browser software.

Some errors are mild and will not disrupt your work--you can simply click "OK" and resume editing your page. Other errors may crash your browser, losing any changes you made since the last time you saved. We suggest you save your page often to minimize the danger of a sudden browser crash.
