Publishing your Personal Home Page using Microsoft FrontPage

Before you can use Microsoft FrontPage to publish a Personal Home Page, please make sure you have installed the FrontPage Web Publishing Wizard. You can download the latest version of the Publishing Wizard from Microsoft at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/software/webpost/.

As you follow the instructions below you may notice that some of the screens on your computer do not match the ones shown below. If you would like your screens to match the ones shown, please download the latest version of the Web Publishing Wizard from Microsoft's Web page, at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/software/webpost/.

If you have problems, you may wish to review the items covered in the Publishing Your Page FAQ.

Step 1: Create Your Page

Using Microsoft Front Page, create your home page. For help using Microsoft FrontPage, please refer to the information that came with your copy of FrontPage. You may also wish to ask your local bookseller to help you find a book about FrontPage.

As you create your page, please remember the Personal Home Pages server does not accept directories or WebBots. The file for the first page of your site should be named "index.html." (Please note that publishing a page named "index.html" will overwrite any page you may have created using the Wizard.)

Step 2: Use the Publishing Wizard

Once you have created your home page, choose Publish FrontPage Web... from the FrontPage Explorer's File menu. You will see:

Change the values on your screen so they match those shown above.

  1. In the box labeled "Destination Web Server or File Location," type ftp://jondoe@pages.cthome.net, using your SNET Internet login name in place of "jondoe."
  2. Make sure the box labeled "Name of Destination FrontPage Web" is blank.

When you click OK, you may be asked for your SNET Internet login name and password, as shown below:

  1. Type your SNET Internet login name in the box labeled "User name." In the example shown above, the user's SNET Internet login name is "jondoe." Replace the word "jondoe" with your own SNET Internet login name.
  2. Then, in the box labeled "Password," type your SNET Internet password. Click OK.

You may be asked for your SNET Internet login name and password again. If you are, repeat the two steps listed above. As you complete the remaining steps, you may be asked for your login name and password again. This is normal. Any time you see the window labeled "Enter Network Password," repeat the two steps listed above.

If you have installed the Web Publishing Wizard, your screen will look like the one shown below. (If you do not see the Web Publishing Wizard, you may need to install it. See the information that came with FrontPage for help, or visit the Microsoft Web site to download the wizard. You will find the latest Web Publishing Wizard at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/software/webpost/.)
