What is a quota? What happens if I go over my quota?

What is the File Manager?

The File Manager lets you view, create, edit, rename, and delete the files in your directory on the server--right from your browser.
Can I modify my Wizard page in the File Manager?
Yes. However, if you try to open your page again using the Wizard, the changes will not appear. The Wizard keeps track of changes you make to your page, but only when they are made in the Wizard. If you make changes to your page outside of the Wizard, they will not be recognized if you reopen it in the Wizard.
What is a quota? What happens if I go over my quota?
A quota is a limit to the number of files or the amount of disk space your Web page can use. The File Manager keeps track of your files two ways: by number of files and by the amount of disk space the files take up. If you are over your quota in either area, a message will flash telling you to remove files. You remove files by clicking on the filename on the left, and clicking the Delete button on the right.
How can I use my disk space more efficiently?
Frequently, customers who have reached their five-megabyte limit are able to reclaim as much as seventy-five percent of their space by following these simple guidelines:

  • Remove unused files.
  • Save all graphics at a resolution of 72 dots per inch (higher resultion wastes space, since all computer monitors display 72 dots per inch).
  • Save photographs as JPEG files (you can even get away with a "low" quality setting), and other images as GIF files. Refer to a Web design book for more help reducing the size of your images.
  • Make sparing use of audio and video, and use MIDI audio files whenever possible. Consider compressing or downsampling your multimedia files.
  • Compress large files with a commercial archiving package like WinZip (this only works if your visitors can download the file for offline viewing).

In general, always remember that your primary Internet audience will view your pages over a modem connection. Your site will be much more popular if you can keep its size down--nobody likes to wait.

Can I create directories in the File Manager?
No. The current version of SNET Internet PHP does not support directories.
